"After giving Stephanie one last longing look, Eric seemed unable to go through with his vows. Donna had a look of panic while Stephanie anxiously leaned forward in her seat. "Forgive me," Eric explained as Donna quelled an anxiety attack, but he professed his love and said, "I will." Donna was relieved as the minister declared they were husband and wife. The guests clapped, except for you know who, as the couple happily kissed. Felicia escorted a devastated Stephanie out to the terrace. "I didn't believe he would go through with it," Steph lamented then went back inside and gave a toast to Eric and his bride. After acknowledging the mistakes she made, Stephanie told Donna she was a lucky woman then warmly declared, "Congratulations." Stephanie said goodbye to her kids and urged them to stay and celebrate with their father. Stephanie walked outside and before getting into her limo, took one last depressing look at the house. She then watched through the open front door as Donna and Eric shared their first dance. "Goodbye, Eric," sighed Stephanie. "Be happy.""

"Ridge greeted Brooke as she showed up at his house for dinner. They sat down and Ridge announced their evening was about "our son and our future." Brooke asked for a second chance and promised "you won't regret it." Ridge worried about having the rug pulled out from under his world again — Brooke assured that if they reconciled, they would be stronger than ever. Before Ridge could respond, the caterer appeared and asked for his assistance in the kitchen. After Ridge left the room, his cell phone went off and Brooke saw that it was Ashley calling. Brooke then noticed a jewelry box and opened it to find a diamond engagement ring. She excitedly slipped it on, just as Ridge returned. "It's so beautiful, I love it!" she exclaimed and threw her arms around a stunned Ridge. Ashley walked in mid-clench and spotted the ring on Brooke. "Oh, my god," she gasped, "You're engaged?"
Ashley, I can explain," Ridge said and then informed Brooke that the ring wasn't meant for her — he had planned on asking Ashley to be his wife. "You can't do this!" wailed Brooke. Ridge asked Ashley if he could have some privacy with Brooke and Ms. Abbott quickly left the room. Brooke refused to believe that Ridge loved Ashley more than her. Ridge reminded Brooke that she dumped him for Nick and he hasn't been over to get over that. "You and I are just not meant to be," he lamented. Brooke insisted that she didn't have a connection to Nick anymore.
While cooling her heels outside, Ashley got a call from Rick. She happily announced that Ridge wanted to marry her, but he was explaining that to Brooke. She crept back into the house to hear Ridge proclaim that "Ashley is my future." Brooke tearfully removed the ring and gave it back to Ridge. After she left, Ashley emerged, then wrapped her arms around Ridge. He was depressed that Brooke had gotten the wrong idea but he got down on bended knee. "Would you do me the great honor of becoming my wife?" he asked and slipped the ring on her finger. "
